I seem to be perpetually tired at the moment (and no, writing this at 1am probably isn't going to help), which doesn't seem to be very conducive to writing anything coherent. Still, I shall try...

To [livejournal.com profile] elise's on Friday night for dinner (garlic, cream, garlic, mushrooms and garlic with pasta, and very yummy) and a long, free-ranging, and very helpful talk.

Then on Saturday, a quick yet for once productive shopping trip. On getting home, I had a few frantic minutes quickly typesetting some music which a friend needed in the morning while trying to pack, and then dashed off to [livejournal.com profile] whotheheckami and [livejournal.com profile] the_mendicant's anniversary party. I had a wonderful time there: lots of great people, copious very yummy food, and possibly even more copious quantities of alcohol, including Pimms and (separately) blood vodka, to both of which I'm rather partial... I must, however, learn to treat Pimms mixed by [livejournal.com profile] andrewdavies with the respect that it deserves!

Towards the end of the evening, those of us staying overnight (and [livejournal.com profile] morfessa, who happens to live nearby) settled down in a very relaxed state for an entertaining mixture of Koyaanisquatsi (which I'd never seen, but found full of wonderul imagery), amazing backrubs (thank you, Mel!), demonstrations of rope-whip-making (for which I'm sure there's a better word), Hitch-hiker's guide videos, and Blackadder. I love the Blackadder episodes, which never seem to pall or age somehow -- and particularly the Elizabethan series -- but succumbed to the lure of bed rather before everyone else, at about 4am or so. Slept very soundly!

The morning featured the best breakfast I've had for a very long while, after which [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke, [livejournal.com profile] andrewdavies and I headed gently back to Cambridge. An afternoon of playing assorted games with children, including finishing off a week-long game of Settlers with A, and a long talk with Liz finished off a really nice weekend.

Monday held nothing of vast import; mostly just the shock to the system of getting back to working over the weekend, although my company's regularly Monday-lunchtime meetup at a pub generally cushions the blow a little. Tuesday was a rather interrupted sort of day; we did at least finally get our wills sorted out (which has been outstanding for a number of years), started to get our finances better organised, and then dashed down to London after school, for a useful counselling session for the children. Consequently, today's been a long, long day of solid work, which has at least broken the back of getting the code I'm working on running.

Plans for the near future include film club tomorrow; the children going to a party at the weekend; possibly going to my ex-curate's last service on Sunday, then the Calling and (hopefully) Elise's party next week. Since it's also two weeks till we go on holiday, work's going to be fairly busy trying to finish what I'm doing before I go, so it's going to be an energetic fortnight, I think.

And finally, an anti-meme. I was quite tempted by the "Secret Crush Database", until realising that the exact people I least want to know that I have secret crushes are those to whom they apply... In the unlikely event that anyone has one on me, they'll just have to go for the old-fashioned, low-tech approach of talking to me. If I turn bright red and run off in embarassment, that probably means you just discovered who I have a crush on :)
