Introducing 24 hour licensing of pubs is being done to reduce binge drinking, and not at all to raise revenue.

Which is why it will cost £1905 instead of £10 to apply for a license. And why pubs will have to pay for the cost of the extra policing for all the extra binge drinkers. Who won't, of course, exist...

tbh i think it will cut down on the number of binge drinkers, or at least give them enough time to turn into alcoholics which is a totally different statistic ;-)

seriously thought this works on the continent so I can't see why, given time, it can't work over here. at the very least you won;t have all the drunks being kicked out at the same time and no-mash-heads can leave at about 11ish as normal without worry of psycho-drunken-herds as they will still be busy getting sloshed.

Whether or not it is a good idea, it does appear the the government are using it as an excuse to raise money and shift the blame...

i think the theory is that by going to a continental system people will pick up the drinking style as well. something along the lines of "now we no longer have only 3 / 4 hours to drink in we don't have to slam them down as quick as possible".
time will tell i think, and yes the gov will be happy over all the extra cash :-)
