Or, in which the author realises she's still not got the hang of this "write diary entry every day" thing...
Mostly a very unassuming sort of day, full of work. One notable milestone, the sort of thing that brings tears to the eye as one remembers fondly in future years: the children had their first ever curry -- Thai green chicken, to be precise. (You mean that wasn't a special moment for everyone?)
Up far too early on Saturday in order to get ready, and to drive to the wedding of a friend in Leeds. It was utterly wonderful: the bride radiant (as all brides should be), the couple happy, and the whole event full of good friends celebrating together. Lots of chances to renew friendships with people who I hadn't seen for a year or two; lots of fun new people to meet.
The children had a whale of a time: they've known a lot of our friends who were there for a long time, and they were being gratuitously cute anyway, so they got lots of attention, which always makes them happy! Pictures were duly taken with the bride and her parents (who are the girls' god-parents), and they got to dance with the bride and the bridesmaids.
We'd intended to go only for the wedding itself and the afternoon reception, but it turned out several people we'd rather wanted to see were only going to the wedding and the evening party. So, since we still had a little energy left (unlike the children, who were still bouncing randomly at people with far too much energy), we thought we'd stay for a little while... Three hours later we finally left to drive home, eventually getting back at 1am, rather tired...
... which is why Sunday was a day of gentle playing with children, interspersed with random sleeping on most of our parts. Nothing of import...
Monday was back to normality... Work currently involves reading a certain amount of complicated specification, which tends by the end of the day to leave me staring at a white page full of symbols which I no longer even recognise visually, let alone reconstruct into words and sentences. An evening out having coffee and mutual ranting with
necro_angel was very welcome to destress a little... I fear I wasn't very coherent, but that's fortunately not a barrier to enjoying good company.
Tuesday started far too early, principally due to my having forgotten that I'd set the alarm clock for 6am on Saturday, and forgotten to reset it to a more civilised time. Another friend (WINOLJ) for coffee in the morning, then out for a (really rather good) dance show at son's school in the afternoon, making for a slightly fragmented sort of day.
More complicated maths left my brain entirely in meltdown on Wednesday, so it was probably a good thing that it, too, was interrupted, this time by a hospital appointment. Signed off (hurray!) without too much panic; apparently the lump in my neck is just a salivary gland, which is a lot more reassuring than all the other possibilities... One less thing to be worrying about, for which I'm very grateful. Then back home for a little more work, until
kathrynlj (WIBarelyOLJ :) arrived to spend an evening going out to meet friends at the pub. Lovely to be able to see her again and catch up with all her news; also exciting to see how well surgery has suited her. (Also rather nice to have someone else driving for the evening, given the venue :)
I didn't drink that much the previous evening, and I feel that the splitting headache that plagued me for the whole of Thursday was quite undeserved. I'm not sure whether it was the heat (which managed to alternate with violent thunderstorms in a rather random sort of way), too much smoke the previous night, complete and utter intolerance of alcohol or just reality hitting back at me for some imagined slight; whatever, large amounts of water and paracetemol didn't seem to touch it. Eventually I gave up and went to bed at the same time as the children... probably just as well that film club was unexpectedly cancelled.
Today... Thursday's headache is still with me, and has been nagging away all day despite my best efforts. The wind has at least been very slightly less inclined to try to blow the entire garden in through the office window, so it's been a bit more practical to keep the room a bit cooler, which probably helps. Instead the weather confined itself to unleashing another enormous storm just as I left to walk into the village for an electrolysis appointment, leaving me arriving looking rather like a drowned rat. Still, that at least took my mind of the appointment itself (very slightly), which is no bad thing... Somehow, I never really imagined I'd end up paying people to stick needles into me and cause lots of pain, although I seem to have an increasing number of friends who like that kind of thing... Fundamentally, I'm too much of a coward to want it without a really good reason, though :)
A busy weekend ahead... I think on the whole I could probably have used a quiet one, to recover from the last week and get ready for what looks like a fun but comparatively sleep-free week ahead. Still, I'm sure we'll enjoy ourselves, and no doubt sometime this month I'll get round to writing about it...
