Stolen

... from Cambridge station, some time this afternoon, a bike looking rather like this one,

only in black and without the orange reflectors. It's a Radius "Peer Gynt", and says "Peer Gynt" in the white writing toward the front of the frame.

It's quite distinctive: if you're in Cambridge, could you keep an eye out, just on the offchance that someone has stolen it, ridden off, and dumped it? (On the other hand, I don't think it's very likely; anyone trying that without having ridden one before would probably have fallen off... Sigh.)

This is about to turn four hellishly difficult weeks into four completely impossible ones, as I need it to get children to and from school, and to get to work and back. And to have any kind of social life, of course, not that I was doing that much anyway. *headdesk*

Oh, and if anyone's planning to take their bike to the station: the enormous yellow signs all over the place are true. There are cameras all over the place there. However, they're not recorded, and not always watched... This is (IMNSHO) worse than useless; if there hadn't been the signs saying "security patrolled and CCTV monitored", I'd have been a lot more cautious about leaving the bike there in the first place...

Oh no! I'm so sorry - I can't believe that of all the bikes you could steal from the station someone would go for one as distinctive as yours. Mankind sucks...

I appreciate the way life seems when all the bad stuff comes at once

but I'm glad you are angry - it's healthier than some of the alternative feelings

Sorry to hear it got pinched. I'd also post this to cam.misc if you've not already done so: there seem to be a lot of people with knowledge about bikes who would probably notice something so unusual.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about that. Big hugs. Looks like a good bike, too, I saw one like that yesterday ridden by a plumpish woman in Histon.

There are times I hate our species.

And then I remember that it has you as part of it, so it's pretty good, all told

Argh! Sorry to hear that.

I saw a bearded fellow riding something similar on the way home from work, but I don't think it was *that* similar, and I can't remember where exactly.

Their private parts to wither and drop off. A thousand hobospiders to nest in their intestines. May their children be cockroaches.

Oh no, one of those...I worked in a computer store, and we were robbed at gunpoint of a $3000 laptop one night, and had the police called in. The police could not believe that while we had cameras everywhere, none of them were recording anything, or even being watched. The library I'm working in now has better security.

Can you leave a complaint with the station, at least? It's ridiculous that they have those misleading signs up everywhere.

I hope that you get your bike back. =( [livejournal.com profile] randomchris and I had one stolen recently too, though it wasn't nearly so stylish (or necessary, fortunately for us).

It just isn't your few weeks, is it?

I hope that the bike turns up, and that life stops throwing crap at you.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. In the U.S., it's legally dangerous to have nonworking things that look like security cameras, especially if there is a sign suggesting that they're operative.

Yesterday, someone stole a laptop from a colleague down the hall. I'm sure it's coincidence.

And I hope you get yours back!

Well, they work, just not effectively. If someone happens to be looking at the monitor, they can catch a criminal. They could also catch criminal by tripping over them on the way to their teabreak, but that's about as likely.

Aw, *splutter* <censored!>

Don't know what to say, except repeating those things about sucking, sympathies, etc.

Crazy(hoping for a turn-around soon - surely you've paid your dues for the next decade, nevermind a mere 12 months??)Soph
