Life on Mars?

Am I alone in thinking that yesterday's APoD photograph demonstrates that Mars is, in fact, better known as the planet of the Clangers? I'm pretty sure that's Major Clanger coming out of his burrow...

Mars is far too big to be the planet of the Clangers - I always thought it was Ceres!

Hmm. Maybe they've just colonised Mars since. After all it's ages since the BBC made that set of documentaries about them; who knows what they've been up to in the last three decades?
